Da Bull Boyz (DBB) was created in Late 1999 as a team name for a Monday Night Eastside Cricket League. The team was created to go against the five year reigning champs of the league, the Booger Boys from Booger Reds. The first time out, DBB defeated the defending champions, and repeated the streak for three straight seasons. Needless to say, the Booger Boys, they decided not to play that league anymore. So what started as just a team name quickly became a dominating force in the local leagues around town. There has been many first place trophies won by DBB throughout the years.
Because of the dominance of the team, league owners (no name mentioned, but just guess); forced the team to split two and two. Southpaw (dad) and myself, kept the team name when we brought in two new players for our team. The other two, used a different name but we all still knew that they where still DBB. The dominance of DBB continued, with both teams (even under a different name) took first and second for the next two seasons. Once again, the teams where forced to split. I was the founder of DBB and all teams that I played on kept the name, as the others used different names.
Southpaw and I started traveling in 2001 to tournaments out of town. We played in the Oklahoma Shootout each year that was held, but in the beginning, that’s all we would play. The best we ever did as DBB in the Oklahoma Shootout was 8th. The rise of DBB in tournaments came in 2005. January of that year, DBB finally won their first tournament event. In Wichita KS, the Air Cap Open, we took 1st place in the Men’s 501 steel-tip open in double out event. The win was a very emotional win for dad and I, we tried so many times and have played really well in so many other tournaments, but could never get over the hump, till that day. That started a new level of playing for us, the same year; we also won at Sooner Corral’s Last Chance Tournament. We took 1st in the Men’s Doubles 01 and finally earned the Chicago Bullshooter Card. We have been back every year since. The latest accomplishment came this year in Omaha NE. We took 3rd in the Men’s Doubles 501 (Opps, I froze dad again) and made the pro list till 2010. In tournaments, dad and I always sign up as DBB and the other members, Paul & Lee, always sign up as DBB2 when out of town. Loved the idea.
At the Air Cap Open in Wichita KS, I noticed a lot of talk about Team Dart Frog. This is a league based organization, in which in return for joining “Team Dart Frog” they had shirts made for each player in the league. This is what got me to thinking about DBB. I believe that we have some of the better players here in OKC then most states combined. “Why not take DBB from a dad and me thing, to a large scale team.”
